There are basically four ways to take your child's temperature; in the ear, rectally, orally, or in the armpit. It is important for you to know that a “normal” reading will vary depending on how you take the temperature. Keep this chart handy to help you keep track of the variances.| Way to take temperature | Normal temperature range | High Fever | Armpit (children of any age) | 36.0°C - 37.0°C/96.8°F- 98.5°F | over 37°C /98.5°F | Ear (children 2 months +) | 36.5°C - 37.5°C/97.7°F- 99.5°F | over 37.5°C/99.5°F | Oral (children 4+) | 36.5°C - 37.5°C/97.7°F- 99.5°F | over 37.5°C/99.5°F | Rectal (3 months and under, after consultation with doctor/nurse) | 37.0°C - 38.0°C/98.6°F- 100.4°F | over 38.0°C/100.4°F |
